Securing Their Future: A Campaign for the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys

The Bishop Walker School is a special place where boys can be boys—high spirits, imperfections and all. Here they are happy, they are safe, they are known, and they are loved. And from that solid foundation, they lean and reach for their own bright futures.

Our school is named in honor of Bishop John T. Walker, the first Africa American Bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. Since out founding in 2008, the Bishop Walker School has provided high quality, values based education to families in need—all tuition free.

As we near the end of our first decade, we have a remarkable opportunity to create a new school home on the beautiful campus of THEARC. This vibrant community center will give our students first-rate school amenities and exceptional opportunities with partner nonprofits at THEARC. Plus, joining with THEARC provides a cost-effective way to create an outstanding school facility for our boys. To seize this opportunity and meet other needs for our students, we are launching the Securing Their Future campaign to raise $6.5 million.

Our tuition-free school is a beacon of hope for underserved neighborhoods of Southeast Washington, DC. Our students’ parents worry about their boys’ futures. They know their children lack the opportunities young people enjoy in more privileged neighborhoods. They are concerned that there are not enough educational resources and positive influences for their sons. And they strive to teach their children to make good choices.

Today, generous donors are making it possible for these parents to give their children a high-quality education and the best possible start in life. That is the lifeblood of the Bishop Walker School’s mission.

Now, we have a once in a lifetime opportunity for caring individuals like you to build a brighter future for our boys, their families, their communities, and our nation.
